About the dojo

Most English courses try to teach you the whole language. This one doesn't. The English Dojo goes after the specific points that learners of English as a foreign language get wrong — the ones that survive years of study and still turn up in your writing.

The course is 88 lessons across five belts, from A2 to C2. Each lesson is short and has the same shape every time: the rule in a sentence, the full explanation, a table of the mistakes it causes next to their corrections, the traps to watch for, and eight drills whose answers you can check when — and only when — you're ready.

Why the same mistakes come back

Most stubborn mistakes aren't gaps in knowledge. You've met the rule, you could probably explain it, and the wrong form still slips out when you speak or write at speed.

Language teachers have a name for this: fossilization. The mistake has hardened in place, like a fossil in rock. It usually still gets your meaning across, so people understand you and let it pass, and each time it goes unnoticed the habit runs a little deeper. Often it's carried over from your first language, which builds the same sentence a different way.

A habit like that doesn't give way to a clearer explanation. It has to be retrained, one point at a time — which is exactly what this course is built for.

Who it's for

If any of these sound like you, the course was built with you in mind.

  • Learners who've plateauedYou can hold a conversation, but the same handful of mistakes keeps coming back. This is a targeted fix, not another beginners' course.
  • Exam candidatesPreparing for an English exam anywhere from A2 to C2, and want the grammar points that level expects, practiced at that level.
  • Professionals writing in EnglishEmails, reports and documents where a missing article or the wrong tense quietly changes what you meant to say.
  • Self-taught speakersYou picked up English by ear, at work, online, from movies. You know what sounds natural, but not always why. This fills in the rules behind it.

What makes it different

How you train matters as much as what you study.

Only the tricky bits
Every lesson exists because learners get that point wrong. Nothing is here for the sake of completeness.
Mistakes, not just rules
Each rule is shown next to the errors it causes, corrected, with the reason spelled out in plain English.
Practice in every lesson
You never just read. Every lesson ends with drills, and the answers stay hidden until you've given it a try.
A path, not a pile
The belts build on one another, so you always know where you are and what comes next. The order is a recommendation, not a lock.

Who's behind this

The creator of The English Dojo spent over five years teaching English as a foreign language, and he noticed a pattern: learners kept making the same grammar mistakes over and over again.

He also saw what finally broke the pattern. It wasn't hearing the rule one more time. It was focused learning on a single tricky point, followed by drills: practice until the right form comes without thinking. Only then did the mistakes stop for good.

That is this course. 88 lessons, each one built around a mistake that keeps coming back, with 704 drills to make the fix stick. It's the experience of all those years in the classroom, shared with everyone, not just the students he happened to teach.

If the same mistakes keep following you, you're in the right place.
